How does the distance learning process work

Distance learning is a method that has broken all barriers and distances between the teacher and the learner, as one of them does not meet the other in school or university, but communication is through the Internet.

Distance learning is considered new to many people because it has emerged so commonly in the world
today due to the introduction of the Coronaviruswhich has contributed to both research and remote work. The student attends school lessons while they are at home, and company workers attend meetings and start their work from Also, through their families, by using many communication programs such as Skype, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and others. But the surprise here is that distance learning is not a new thing, and it exists and has been used for a long time, and now we will know together about the history of distance learning.

The beginning of the distance learning

The first appearance of distance learning was in 1728 in the United States of America, especially in Boston, where correspondence courses were announced, and the owner of this announcement was Caleb Phillips.

The University of London was the first university to offer degrees from a distance in 1857. In 1892, distance learning became the name of a handbook issued by Wisconsin-Madison in the United States.

How does the distance learning process work?

In university studies, the student has a significant role in that educational process, as they participate in educational materials at home or work, and communication with teachers is through e-learning platforms and e-mails. Here we are talking more about university students because distance learning is more in that category that school students are in great need to meet with teachers face to face, so distance-learning decreases with this educational stage.

Distance learning involves the use of the Internet to communicate through it, as well as the participation of students or learners who follow anything relevant to educational material through the programmed pages that are dedicated to it according to an acceptable framework to describe the material in such way as to easy to understand and benefit from. Also, direct and indirect discussion sessions can be available. In the end, there must be a teacher responsible for monitoring and evaluating the student’s performance and giving him the grades he deserves.

 The importance of distance learning

There are many advantages to distance learning, such as you can learn and take a bachelor’s degree while you are at home or while you are working, and you can reconcile your studies, work, and home affairs. Choose the right time for you to learn and choose the place as well.

While you are in China, you can obtain a degree in America without traveling.

Saving money as distance learning has become cheaper than attending universities and schools in terms of study costs or accommodation costs and transportation to and from the university or travel costs if you want to take a certificate from another country.

But there is an important point that is considered one of the disadvantages of distance learning, which is the lack of direct communication with the professors and the lack of friends, unlike going to the university every day.

Distance learning goals

-Contribute to raising the cultural, scientific, and social level of community members.

-Working to provide a variety of educational resources, which helps reduce individual differences between trainees by supporting training institutions with diverse and interactive teaching methods and techniques.

-Creating higher job opportunities for those who missed regular education and those who are on the job to be useful.

Are there types of distance learning?

Of course, yes, there are several types of remote learning, such as:

1- Online courses: by sending lectures and lessons to students through several programs

Or e-mail and that they prepare and review them from their place and not in the classroom, and these lectures are most likely recorded.

2- Hybrid courses: which are the division of days between the actual attendance in schools or universities and between receiving the rest of the lectures and lessons via the Internet.

3- Conference classes: which are a meeting on the dates of lectures through some communication programs, as we mentioned previously, where the professor meets his students, and the course is live, and the student can ask all questions related to the lecture and the professor has the opportunity to answer the questions that asked.
